[All Stages and No UFO Shortcuts] Okay so the only reason I know about this game is because I actually own the ’Mario IV’ hack game and it still feels odd that this game was marketed officially and in a real famicom cartridge no less. When I recorded this the game resolution was a lot smaller than the actual screen so it left a completely BLANK column to the left. To compensate I designed some small overlays for each respective world to fill that awkward gap/ void. And trust me the gap looks really UGLY and distracting if left alone. The screen deformities on the right side I can’t do much about since characters can walk all the way there unlike the left side (which is untouchable). The flickering bar above the status screen is not as bothersome as the left side issue so I just left it alone. This game is originally japanese as was the ’Mario IV’ Hack a translation patch was used to convert it into english. I don’t recall a lot of armadillo game characters that weren’t minor characters or mere henchmen. When playing the game as the non-hacked version I couldn’t get the impression of Armored Armadillo from Mega Man X out of my mind mainly because he was the ONLY video game armadillo that I recall. Alright... so there is also Armadillomon and Sandshrew but I primarily remember them via Anime and I don’t use Sandshrew that often when I play Pokemon either. The game is pretty difficult mostly because of its’ rigid game mechanics. Billy the Shell arguably has less b.../b

[All Stages and No UFO Shortcuts] Sushi Bars are great places to get tips especially if you’re playing this game for the first time. Sometimes the bartender goat will only give you small talk instead of something helpful. The most unusual tip that I received is the one at 1:30 you are told to get 6 dice in a single level to score big bonus points however most of the time (if not all the time) I can only obtain 5 dice and any additional die doesn’t show up any die after the 5th awards Billy 2000 points. My only guess is that if you are able to locate all the dice numbers 1 to 6 then you can hold onto 6 but if you get even 1 duplicate then you cannot hold 6. I’m still trying to figure out how the Goal scoring for the dice work but my guess is that it acts like some form of Yahtzee (5-dice Yahtzee). Sushi Bars are also useful to instantly clear enemies in the surrounding screen because whenever you enter and leave a sushi bar it automatically removes all the enemies around the sushi bar. A much needed relief for quite a few dangerous enemies Billy the Shell comes across. Speaking with the Martian also does the same and helps clear away surrounding enemies. I wanted to cover the following in the first video but ran out of space: Some things to keep in mind is the transformations and items: TRANSFORMATIONS *NOTE: you transformwhen you try rolling into a ball again (while in ball form). If you grab another transformation you lose the ability to transform into the b.../b

[All Stages and No UFO Shortcuts] The goat bartender brings up a very important tip bullets do inflict damage EVEN when you are rolled up. Too bad Billy the Shell doesn’t have the much stronger coating that Armored Armadillo has. What the bartender failed to mention was that ANY bullet or projectile can do this. So this not only refers to bosses but includes Mr. Moneybag’s dove and the Gopher’s ’BOW’ as well and don’t take Mr. Moneybag so lightly he can easily catch you off-guard with his slow flying dove the gopher is a bigger pain later on when he appears on single platforms let alone that his ’BOW’ attack is considerably fast and hard to dodge. Las Vegas doesn’t offer a whole lot in terms of gambling the only thing I found was an additional 5-dice Yahtzee-like machine but with null values. Oh yeah in case you were wondering... the corn-on-the-cob at 8:10 is a 1-UP dispenser pretty much as you approach it it’ll explode out 4 corn kernels and each one you touch grants you a 1-UP. They are very rare to find but not always hidden in shadowed corners. Catching corn kernels is actually harder than it looks because not only does jumping right into the corn-on-the-cob not work but the launched corn kernels move at a very fast speed (not to mention having to worry about the surroundings before you go kernel-catching happy).

[All Stages and No UFO Shortcuts] Ah... just like a lot of other game there is almost always an ocean/ water-themed world. The placement of the bat above the tall ladders in 2 of the stages is just stupid that thing can swoop down very fast and instantly kill you. Most often the only means to defeat it is to lure it ALL THE WAY DOWN and then strike it thankfully it doesn’t respawn off-screen. The propeller fish look really dumb and move incredibly slow but their backs are sharp and can kill you on contact even when rolled up so make sure you time your attacks correctly because they always patrol back and forth a set area. The yellow liquid/ pond or whatever it is at the beginning of the first stage... I have not clue what the hell it is suppose to be. What I do know is that it adds additional weight to Billy the Shell’s bounces. The first major boss compared to previous ones and also the first actual appearance of the big boss himself. Not as intimidating as Bowser but I suppose I shouldn’t expect much from the leader of the ’Black Bean Gang’. Interestingly enough he breaks the fourth wall by referring himself as the ’game’s bad guy’ but Bowser has been known to do the same as well sometimes. One thing to keep in mind is that A LOT of the flooring is destructible so after you roll up and attack you must immediately un-roll before hitting the ground otherwise fighting this boss will be a nightmare. If you successfully land behind the boss like I did you can b.../b

[All Stages and No UFO Shortcuts] The ONLY time we don’t get an intermission letter from the big boss but I guess since he literally told you his next destination back in San Francisco there was no point. So much for a clean-run or a no-death run but I suppose that would potentially take a couple more months of re-recodings if I was THAT determined because the rigid game mechanics is your worst foe most of the time. I hate the fact that the boss lairs are becoming more of obstacles themselves than they should be there’s no point all that should matter is to fight the boss. All this garbage before it is just meandering waste to filter away your life stock. Interestingly enough we battle an EVIL Fox McCloud and even if he isn’t the famed Star Fox commander he sure looks like it and armed appropriately similar... kinda of. There is also a new Goal animation and bosses now emerge from barrels instead of statues both signs of crossing the halfway point of the game. Is it just me or does a small portion of the Sushi Bar melody sound like it belongs on a patriotic anthem or something?

[All Stages and No UFO Shortcuts] An interesting deviation from the previous ’airplane’ intermissions it’s most likely that this can be missed easily because it certainly hasn’t changed for a majority of the game (this is the ONLY different ’airplane’ intermission) which most players would most likely skip by pressing any button. This is the point where stages become much more frustrating you really need to take your time to traverse stages because precision and accuracy really count now. There are also more ice block appearances as opposed to earlier worlds. Oh yes if at this point you still forgot that you can bounce on spikes you will NEVER be able to pass this world or the game for that matter. The raccoon that moves off-screen at 2:48 is every bit as cheap as the damn bat on top of the tall ladder in World 4 San Francisco you can die in an instant if you are not rolled up while jumping AND just like that damn particular bat there are two stages with this cheap raccoon. The stage backgrounds REALLLLLLLY messes with your mind at 11:41 there APPEARS to be a flat surface of grass but in reality if you were fooled into standing there you would be falling right down into the deep pit down there. I have no further comments but this is certainly something the game developers could’ve fixed unless they were intentionally trying to mess with your head. The damn gator caught me off guard and swallowed Billy the Shell at 10:05. I don’t know exactly when he turns b.../b

[All Stages and No UFO Shortcuts] The intermission letter seems oddly out of place it obviously feels more in place with the previous world in which Billy the Shell’s airplane crashed in mid-flight and likewise the previous letter should’ve introduced this world’s location Lima. I don’t know whether this was either the developer’s fault OR the translator but even if it was the developer’s fault for this minor oversight the translator should’ve corrected this in either case. But I will recognize his/ her’s efforts in changing the title screen to reflect the Nintendo Power preview screenshot of the game when it was still being considered for NA localization. I got a little nervous when I heard the timing run out of the shell reversal potion (The Blue and Green Billy) so I thought I timed it corrected right before I was about to change back at 12:48 but I guess I should’ve waited a little longer for it wear off the reversal potion really confuses you during gameplay. The stages are getting a little more ridiculous in terms of layout the best example is 7:51 in which you have sequenced single blocks some with Gophers and even Mr. Moneybags at times yes good of the developers to pile up the ONLY projectile tossing assholes into single spots makes everything MUCH MORE difficult for the player and don’t think for a moment you can just run over small gaps like Mario Billy has no such ability instead he must slowly jump across them. The boss looks a little bit like b.../b

[All Stages and No UFO Shortcuts] The final world and holy crap is it HARD. The main gimmick in ALL the stages is to have AS MANY damn holes and pits for Billy the Shell to fall in I’m serious there are more holes here than a football field length long slice of swiss cheese or bathroom sponge. Don’t let the earlier colourful stages fool you this place can be really dangerous. Most enemies are now the enemies that can inflict instant deaths (and later on projectile enemies) such as the Spinning Clown and the WIDE Mouth... Pink Thing (could be a man-eater plant because it looks like it has white petals). The Spinning Clown despite his appearance has a pointy bottom that is literally a sharp blade. I hated this world so much I did several re-records just to lower the overall video length the VERY last stage right before the Final Boss confrontation is the longest and most annoying in an earlier recording I died about 20 times. Stage 4 the first subway stage is also pretty bad too in earlier attempts I died around 12 times. It also doesn’t help that all these subway stages mark the return of the annoying oriental background music from World 6 the Amazon. The subway environments look as if they took a complete nose dive in dullness compared to the carnival stages. Oh yes there are (besides holes) also plenty of ice blocks isolated single blocks enemies on THOSE blocks and lots of spikes. The damn bunny at 13:22 there was NO WAY I could’ve rolled up in time b.../b
