The original game was supposed to be a platformer.. If you have some old japanese Famitsu magazines you will see the original graphics. and they were amazing for that period. I wonder what made Sunsoft decide to scrap it all and turn pc engine Batman to a strange (and imo boring) maze like game.. Having said that many will argue that this is the best pc engine chip music ever produced! The pc engine has a 6 channel PSG (Programmable Sound Generator) The original scans can be found here: disgruntleddesigner.com

A rare and obscure Batman game that’s no one’s never played. It’s a pretty different Batman game at that. It’s worth checking out if you’re a Batman fan.
great games you never played batman pc engine
A Japan-only Batman game... for PC Engine!? AWESOME!!!! ... Actually a lot of people say the game sucks but it’s really not bad at all just... different... very different... but it is pretty faithful to the franchise. You see back in the 90s Sunsoft Konami and Sega all released some pretty great or interesting Batman games (and then there were other not so great or just terrible games) but they almost all of them focused on Batman and/or Robin beating the living crap out of badguys either in Beat-em-up- fashion side-scroller action fashion or even more along the lines of a platformer. Indeed when Sunsoft was originally developing this game it seemed that it was going to be another side-scroller (and good looking at that) but for whatever reason it was scrapped and this was presented to PC Engine owners instead: a top-down search-and-destroy maze game type thing. The game is actually pretty fun and well-designed for the kind of game it is and it’s spread across 48 stages and four different levels (12 stages each) before you reach the final level to defeat ’The Joker’ and his two closest henchmen (the only real boss fight in the game). You start off in Gotham City collecting The Joker’s tainted cosmetics then move to the Fluegelheim Museum to clean and restore important defaced paintings then travel to the Axis Chemical Factory to set bombs to destroy the Joker’s ability to produce dangerous products at its source then finally head back to Gotham to get b.../b

A Japanese exclusive for the PC Engine (called the TurboGrafx-16 in America). If you speak English you can still play this game as you will see in this video that there’s not a lot of text and it’s in English anyway. This game’s interest? The last thing I would expect from a Batman game is a puzzle game. This game’s greatest flaw? The last thing I would expect from a Batman game is a puzzle game. I mean yes it’s original and you got me but a Batman beat ’em up was just all I asked for from those old consoles. It’s not even a puzzle game to look for you go around this labyrinth stunning the enemies on your path to get rid of them while you try collecting a certain amount of a specific object that’s it. It’s barely a puzzle game at all. Not the worst game I’ve seen but not good. Note: I’d like some help assuming I’m not just imagining things. Is it just me or does the music in the title screen sound familiar? I feel like it was in another game that I should remember but I can’t find which. I feel that it’s a known game too all I can think of is Konami. I’m probably just crazy. Like the last music notes at the end make me expect a fatality from Mortal Kombat.

A pretty neat Batman game for the PC Engine. I had said that the music I recognized from the NES version of Batman was remixed music but after checking the release dates it appears the PC Engine version was released a couple months before the Famicom/NES version so I guess it’s the other way around.
