2/2→sm2350200

Imami Pon and BA.M composed the music for Power Strike II (GG Aleste II in Japan) for the Sega Game Gear in 1993. Only released in Japan and Europe it is not the same game as ’Power Strike II’ for the Sega Master System which only came out in Europe. Rather it is the sequel to GG Aleste which came out on the Game Gear only in Japan. Confusing enough for you? :D Both Imami Pon and BA.M also composed the soundtrack for ’Madou Monogatari ARS’ on Japan’s PC-98 that same year. --- Add fmt=18 to the end of the URL for the high quality version. I actually thought this game would be insanely difficult since it had four levels of difficulty and GG Aleste on ’Special’ mode was quite hard in some situations. It probably is really difficult if you use the homing missiles or any other weapon except... ...Napalm. Basically you only have to survive until you get your weapon upgraded for a bigger blast. On max level it covers everything in an arc in front of you. Yea it covers a whole area not just whatever it meets on the way. And it even destroys incoming bullets! This makes Power Strike II a joke I’m sorry. I just can’t get a lot of fun out of the Aleste series at least those on the Game Gear. In my opinion Halley Wars is still better by far. That game has aged well over the years I can still enjoy playing it yet another time. Aleste not so much...

Some gameplay footage of GG Aleste. An awesome shooter for the Sega Game Gear. Played using the MEKA emulator using a wired xbox 360 controller.

A shmup! Japan only... It was made by Compile and the Aleste series should be familiar to anyone into shmups. This version for the Game Gear is a mixed bag. Compared to Halley Wars (I made a playthrough of that too) it feels more like a shooter you’d find on an arcade machine but it’s too easy! On normal difficulty your homing laser will clear the screen almost by itself and the bosses are easily defeated. So I played this on ’special’. The only difference is that enemies and destructible projectiles fire a bullet at you when destroyed. Most of the time that is no big deal but it does increase the difficulty significantly and it can sometimes be really tight to maneuver. The bonus stages are useless too. Halley Wars is certainly the better game in my opinion. There was a sequel that was also released in Europe Power Strike II (GG Aleste II in Japan). I might do a playthrough of that too but it could take a bit since I haven’t played that before.

A pin converter allows it to run but it’s glitchy and unplayable - probably a dodgy connection in the converter.
