Raging Fighter (known as ’Outburst’ in Japan) is a Game Boy Konami Fighting game that appears to have all the benchmarks of a great fighter on the surface: Great graphics complete with a cool intro a great soundtrack seven fighters each with special moves under their belt (though two basically fight the same so it’s more like six fighters) several modes from a Story Mode to a Tournament Mode to even a Practice Mode and a few adjustable options. Is there nothing that can stop this game from being awesome as hell? Yeah. The character balance is off but more importantly the Story Mode is a bit of a pain and the controls are ’quite’ sluggish. While the system can be learned and overcome to an extent (depends on who you use really) it doesn’t change things even simple attacks have an unnatural delay in execution even simple moves can be difficult to pull off at times and Story Mode makes you use ’okay’ characters while the computer uses all the cool people (like Vandal and Mayabi) which is partially why almost nobody plays the Story Mode. Of course it’s not nearly impossible to beat Story Mode it’s just irritating all the same. The great visuals are partially to blame as someone cared more about the character animations than the recovery time from attacks. Even if you know all the moves (which are basically done in a Street Fighter / Mortal Kombat fashion) characters like Tao (the first of whom you use in Story Mode) has such slow attacks that they take about a b.../b
