ポピュラスII (Populous II: Trials of the Olympian Gods) 1991年SNES - SUPER NINTENDO - SFC - 1991/1993 JAPANESE INFO ::: ja.wikipedia.org ENGLISH INFO ::: en.wikipedia.org Populous II: Trials of the Olympian Gods is a computer game in the Populous series for the Amiga Atari ST and DOS-based computers developed by Bullfrog Productions. Populous II is a direct sequel to Bullfrog’s earlier game Populous and is one of the company’s most notable games. Like its predecessor Populous II is a god game where the player takes the role of a god guiding his people in battle against the followers of an enemy god. Whereas Populous only generally alluded to undefined deities Populous II is specifically set under the backdrop of Greek mythology. The player is a demigod one of Zeus’s countless children with mortal women and has to battle one Greek deity at a time until finally facing his father. Zeus has promised to let the player into the Pantheon on Olympus if he can survive all the battles. Populous II is considerably more versatile and has a great deal more ’divine intervention’ effects than the original game. Populous would only bestow eight powers on the player but the sequel Populous II has twenty-nine (30 in PC version). These are sub-divided into six categories of effect: earth water wind fire plants and people. The six categories has an individual ’manna meter’ which needs to be filled to a certain level to enable specific powers for usage. Manna is generated by b.../b

This is the first Super Famicom special from the staff of Famicom Tsushin magazine (Famitsu) made in late 1990. In this video the first 12 games in the SFC’s life are given a test run by the usual GTV staff highlighting the special enhancements the SFC brings to the table. A lengthy run-through of Super Mario World comes first followed by: F-Zero Bombuzal Pilotwings Populous Gradius III Final Fight Actraiser SD The Great Battle Gdleen Hole in One Golf and Drakkhen. (I guess this video was great for the kid whose parents couldn’t find them a SFC system for Christmas that year...) The reviewers make short comments about the games as well as the usual gags and perverted comments (watch out for them!) as well as some potentially libelous(!) gossip about PIN Suda (ASCII’s spokesman for the game ’Wizardry’) at the end of the video for who knows what reason. I guess they were goofing around after main filming was done but the producers never cut it out... Check out my webpage for more retro gaming: www.chrismcovell.com
